Barrington Is the Place to Be

Barrington 220 kicks off the 2024-25 school year with its theme, The Place to B! Our back-to-school issue features district students, alumni, and winning head football coach, Joe Sanchez, our Quintessential Person. A report on the upcoming referendum in our Barrington 220 department will bring you up to speed for the November 5th ballot. We hear from Barrington Youth & Family Services’ leader Betsy Wintringer, whose thoughtful message is timeless as students regroup after summer vacation in the halls and classrooms of our schools.

Our community is now gearing up for a busy fall season at the polo field, on our sports fields, and in our schools. There are endless cultural events to choose from at Barrington’s White House, now under the leadership of Brian Coyle, the new director of cultural affairs. The Catlow 1927 Foundation offers its updates in a report on theatre renovations and plans; please keep this project in mind if you can help with donations. In one of our features, we wax poetic about a husband-and-wife team of Barrington grads who are in California producing a collection of exciting new wines. And if you love Mid-century Modern architecture, grab your tickets (at bacoa.org) for the Mid Mod Barrington tour on October 19, with an informative kick-off event, “Modern in the Middle: Chicago Houses 1929-1975” on October 18 at Barrington’s White House (for tickets visit barringtonswhitehouse.com).

Leading the way in this issue are Mandy and Matt Lewandowski, who founded the Chicago Charity Clays fundraiser event to support members of the Special Operations community through the Special Operations Care Fund. The life-saving needs for physical and mental health services are great, and for many, their only hope is support from the civilian community. This year they will celebrate their 10th anniversary, and they invite you to join them on October 11 for a life-changing experience.
